Specialty Exam Results Orthopedic Exam: A positive Ortalani sign was found bilaterally. The Ortalani test is a test for subluxation of the femoral head. A positive Ortalani test will result in the femoral head dropping back into the socket. This test is a one way of confirming hip dysplasia. The testŐs results are also used to help determine a prognosis and recommendation for treatment of hip dysplasia. The range of motion was determined to be 130 degrees. This is just below the normal range of motion of 140 degrees. This indicates that full movement of the joint is being impeded. The Cranial Drawer test was negative. The Cranial Drawer test is a test for pathological movement of the tibia cranial to the femur due to rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament in the stifle joint. A negative sign indicates the cranial cruciate ligament is intact. No crepitation or joint instability was noted during the exam. Radiographic Exam: The VD radiograph revealed that the femoral head is subluxated out of the acetabulum. The acetabulum also appears to be more shallow than normal. The cranial margin of the acetabulum is abnormal and appears to be rounded more than it should be with possible osteophyte formation along the margin. The joint space is also wedge-shaped. The femoral head does not appear to be flattened or displaying osteophyte formation. The lateral radiograph was fuzzy upon enlargement. No clinically useful information could be obtained from this view. No evidence of fracture, soft tissue swelling, or inflammation was noted on either radiograph.
