Prognosis

	
Long term prognosis is good after a partial meniscetomy, and intracapsular reconstruction by placement of an autogenous tissue graft through the joint to mimic the course of the cranial cruciate ligament. Following the intracapsular reconstruction with placement of an autogenous tissue graft and an initial restriction of exercise for three months, a return to full function should be seen within six to nine months.  However, her large size and high level of activity will affect Bonnie's outcome.  Bonnie will have a poorer prognosis for acceptable long-term function due to her larger size and active life.  A significant number of patients with cranial cruciate ligament rupture injure the ligament in the opposite knee within three years.  This would decrease the long-term prognosis to fair if this were to occur in Bonnie. The prognosis for DJD is fair provided the joint is stabilized and the pain is managed.
