Specialty Exams The radiographs taken of the elbow joint showed a complete transverse fracture of the articular surface of the olecranon involving the trochlear notch. The fracture is displaced and appears to be simple. It is unclear whether the fracture involves the ulnar growth plate. However, the growth of the ulnar will be minimally affected because only 15% of ulnar growth occurs from that growth plate. The majority of ulnar growth occurs from the distal growth plate. The humerus and the radius appear to be normal and free of fractures. There are no degenerative joint changes noticeable, and the time frame indicates they would not be occurring yet. There is also no radiographic evidence of callus formation or healing (other than soft tissue swelling). Minor increased radiopacity on the radiograph combined with the physical exam results indicates that there is some soft tissue swelling and fluid accumulation.
