Consequently, one of the main evaluation tools will involve observations during those times. Regular class meetings will be held to discuss any potential problems and difficulties and also to talk about the progress of the projects. Nevertheless, short quizzes throughout the unit will also be used to assess students learning and knowledge. Continuous observations and frequent class meetings can help the teacher to stay up to date with his/her students learning process and may also enable the teacher to react faster to possibly emerging difficulties. The usage of quizzes is just a way to formatively assess what they have learned and if they have attained an understanding of the previously learned topics. During the entire unit, students will be ask to reflect in a journal on their group work, the preparation of their future project, but also to write about their feelings and thoughts on the topic in general. This can serve as an additional supportive means to the observations and meetings. For the final project, which is based on all three coordinate units (Definition, Causes, and Conservation and Intervention), students will be planning and organizing an actual event such as a fund raiser or something similar to raise awareness. They will prepare a presentation and think about other possible activities, create informative brochures and advertise their event by writing an article for the (school) newspaper and designing flyers. And although the project will be assessed by a rubric, the realization of this project is neither theoretical nor is its ultimate goal to get a good grade.
