This Concept Map, created with IHMC CmapTools, has information related to: Common Nerve & Joint Blocks, High Palmar Nerve Block The equipment necessary include A 25 gauge, 5/8 inch needle to inject 3-5 ml of local anesthetic (LA)over the palmer nerves. A 20-22 gauge, 1.5inch needle is used to inject the palmar metacarpal nerves., Lateral palmar nerve block The procedure is as follows: 1.With the limb bearng weight, the LA is injected at the level of the distal accessory carpal bone where it desensitizes the lateral nerve before it branches int0 rhe medial and lateral metacarpal nerves., Types of Nerve Blocks ???? Palmar(Planter) Digital Nerve Block, Types of Nerve Blocks ???? Abaxial Sesamoid Nerve Block, Types of Nerve Blocks ???? Low Palmar Nerve Block *scroll over*, High Palmar Nerve Block The procedure is as follows: These nerves are anesthetized slighlty distal to the level of the carpometacarpal joint. 1.The equipment is used and with the limb bearing weight, the needle is inserted through the fascia to were the palmar nerve lies near the dorsal border of the deep digital flexor tendon. The LA is administered. 2.Again with the limb bearing weight ( can also be flexed), the palmar metacarpal nerves are anaesthetized at their location on the caudal aspect of the cannon bone., Types of Nerve Blocks ???? High Palmar Nerve Block *scroll over *, Low Palmar Nerve Block The equipment necessary include A 25 gauge, 5/8 inch needle to inject 2 ml of local anaesthetic into the area over each palmar nerve and 1-2ml for the distal end of each splint bone., Low Palmar Nerve Block The procedure is as follows: 1. The horse bears weight on the limb and the equipment is used to deposit LA over and anesthetize the medial and lateral palmar nerves at the level of the metacarpus where they lie at the dorsal border of the deep digitlal flexor. 2. The communicating branch of the nerve which connects the medial and lateral branches ( ramus communicans) should be blocked with 1ml LA. 3. At the distal end of the splint bones, the LA should be administered subcutaneously to block the metacarpal nerves., Types of Nerve Blocks ???? Lateral Palmar Nerve Block/ High Palmar Nerve Block at the Accessory Carpal Bone *scroll over*, Lateral palmar nerve block The equipment necessary include A 25 gauge, 5/8 inch needle to inject 2 ml of local anaesthetic into the area.
