Collaboration Policy
Working together with teachers and other students
is an important part of the learning process. Collaboration is defined as:
“The act of working together with one or more
people in order to achieve something.”
When students collaborate as a part of
schoolwork, the “something” that they are trying to achieve is learning. Working
in groups is about students helping each other to learn more completely than
they would on their own. It is not an excuse to get other people to do your
work for you or to divide work up so you don’t have to understand it all. Working in a group does not excuse the
individual from learning all the material or doing all his or her own work.
During group activities, every member of the
group is expected to:
·
be responsible
for their own learning
·
understand
what the entire group is doing and why
·
assure
that everyone understands what the group is doing
·
contribute
to the group’s learning
Many
group activities will be graded based on how well all members of the group
learn the material. If any member of the group does not understand what the entire
group has done, the entire group’s grade will suffer.
