The RCO is currently performing the duties of the Security Coordinator. There are 23 centers in the United States and Canada.
The Security Coordinator:

• Monitors interactionsof SoCo with the rest of country
• Look at flows, transmissions, etc
• Seeks to prevent undervoltage, overvoltage  2day horizen
• Monitors OASIS – buy/sell information
• Understands transmission system itself

Has to make decisions:
Decide to take line out – good decision yesterday maybe bad today, change plans
Must understand:

• Big picture see impacts (direct and indirect) of actions
• Impacts of inaction

Simulator – design of lines
Understand influences affecting transmission center

Must understand the role of weather

Planning
Unexpected problems
 Plant goes out
Unexpected demand
