Other Alerts
LEW HANES: Are there other kinds of alert you put out?
BILL MELTON: We put out an alert if a heat wave is expected notifying the plants to be prepared to maintain full load for the systems conditions that are expected for the next day.
An alert will be issued for a solar magnetic disturbance. That is reported to the security desk through the Security Coordinator Information System (SCIS).
Overall, the Generation Coordinator is responsible for issuing alerts.
In the morning if we see in our load balancing process that we cannot meet
the projected load for the day, we start into our alert process.
This process is used to control the loading of the system. It is
also used to make sure that everybody is aware of expected system conditions
for the day.
