Interpretation of specialty exam results The specialty exam results were within normal limits except for a decreased Hemoglobin, hematocrit, and mean cell volume; the joint fluid analysis revealed a pure culture of Klebsiella pnemoniae; the radiographs revealed some joint swelling, but no apparent bone involvement. Based on these results we determined the results to support a joint infection/septic arthritis due to traumatic origin. We concluded this infection was not obtained through the umbilicus or intrauterine route since the animal is afrebrile and the leukogram is within normal limits. The CBC results are not decreased enough to be a significant finding in this case.
