Client Instructions Titan needs a proper diet to maintain an ideal weight and avoid obesity. There are many diets currently in the market that would be proper, a few include Iams minichunks, HillŐs maintenance, or Purina pro plan. The feeding directions should be followed carefully to avoid overfeeding. If the client has any question she should contact the veterinarian. If Titan puts on some weigh her condition will worsen dramatically. Titan will need lots of rest for at least 3-4 weeks to allow her heal. After this time , Titan should be limited from rough play and extreme exercise. Activities such as leash walking on non-pavement and swimming would help strengthen her stifle and hopefully decrease the amount of pain she feels. She should not be allowed to play rough with other dogs and should be allowed to rest if pain reoccurs. Lastly, in order to help Titan feel better and maintain a healthy activity level, pain control medications should be considered.. The owner should give the pain control medications daily at first to decrease the pain and to maintain the use of the affected leg. Once Titan seems to be doing better the owner can give the medication only as needed for pain. If there are any problems or the medicine does not seem to be working the owners should contact the veterinarian for reassessment. TitanŐs owner must keep a close eye on her. If the condition does not improve or worsens Titan needs to be re-evaluated. As a last resort surgery might be the only way to relief the pressure currently experienced in the stifle.
