Client Instructions The joint should not be immobilized, as it has been found that the beneficial effects of early joint mobilization outweigh those of immobilization. A light bandage is applied to the limb for about 5 days to protect the wound. Titan should have restricted activity in a confined, nonslip area for 2 to 3 weeks. Jumping should be avoided for 1 month. There should be a slow progressive increase in activity about 3 weeks after surgery. Titan should not be allowed to play with the other dog for at least 1 month, and interactions should be strictly monitored for several weeks. Titan will probably start using the limb about 2-4 weeks after surgery, but this varies with each case. Titan needs to lose weight. A good restricted calorie diet should be provided. The normal weight for a Pomeranian is 3-7 pounds; therefore, Titan needs to lose about 5 pounds. It is especially important that Titan be a normal weight, to avoid future injury to this limb. Titan may experience degenerative joint changes in the repaired limb. The owners will need to carefully observe the affected limb for such changes.
