Discharge instructions This foal has an infection in his fetlock joint. We are prescribing antibiotic injections, which need to be given intramuscularly as instructed on the vial. It is very important to follow through with the entire regimen of this antibiotic even if symptoms improve. The foal will need to be reevaluated at the end to the antibiotic treatments. However if symptoms become worse or do not improve we will need to reevaluate sooner, so please monitor his progress and call us if there are any problems. We are also prescribing a pain reliever, phenylbutazone, which will be given orally as label instructs. Prolonged rest is needed, however do not immobilize the joint.
