Explanation of Facts This case involves a two week old filly with a right hind leg lameness. The dam is current on vaccinations, although we are not informed which vaccines were given. We expect that the filly is receiving passive immunity through the damÕs milk since she is nursing. This, combined with her normal temperature and normal physical exam results excepting the fetlock joint, indicates to us that sepsis in an unlikely possibilty. The right hind limb lameness seems to be localized to the fetlock joint as the physical exam results indicate. There are indications of joint inflammation supported by the presence of pitting edema and a pain response (the foal resents palpation of the joint). Results of hoofs testers on right hind hoof illicited no pain (no laminitis present) supporting our conclusion that that the joint abnormality is localized the fetlock joint.
