Learning issues: *Tight band of tissue connecting the raised toes to the dorsum of the footÑwhat is this? With impaired bone healing situations fibrous issue formation predominates between the fracture ends. In this case the fibrous tissue has formed between the fracture ends and is pulled tight when the toe in raised the position of weight bearing. What does this mean? That there is enough blood supply to the area to support tissue growth but the presence of infection and other factors lead to impaired healing conditions and prolonged ossification or the fibrous tissue. _ What do the high pulse and respiration indicate? Most likely a slight sympathetic nervous system response to pain/stress. _ What is the significance of the draining tracts? Indicates infection at the site of the fracture, _ What factor, if any, did the cast play in development of the deformity? The cast could have caused the valgus deformity due to pathologic pressure on one side of the leg. The cast may have also been less rigid than it needed to be which would have not adequately supported the weight of the calf during the healing process.
