LNG Steam Simulator Exercise

010. Run the Simulator to Change Over from DO to HFO Burning

[Load Snapshot "Ex_010_Changing Over from DO to HFO_Burning"]

- Asssume scenario as described below [but check to confirm] and then follow the given procedures

Electrical Power:-

Shore Power:Off; Emergency Generator:Auto Stand-by; Both Turbo Generators:Off; Diesel Generator:On

Fuel Bunkers:-

All bunker tanks are full; Fuel oil settling tanks are full as well (both for diesel oil & heavy fuel oil).

Water Bunkers:-

All water bunker tanks are full.

Engine Room Bilges:-

Clear with bilge pump on AUTO through OWS .

Deaerator:-

Full with guage glass reading between 60~70 mm

Both Boilers:-

Both boilers on low fire. Both Boiler Press - aboout 6 Mpa; Heated HFO supply is available.

Control Air System:-

On - All valves to various services OPEN.

Distilled Water Tank (DWT) & Atmospheric Drain Tank (ADT):-

Both DWT & ADT about 60% full.

Note

Here too when the steam pressure is being raised once the boiler is firing on HO it is recommended that one lowers the Plant Master Set Point to about 45% and then gradually increase the Set Point back to 58% as done while raising pressure on DO.

>> Procedures for changing boiler fuel from DO to HFO burning:-

Bnr Mgt Stbd/ Port:
1 Stop Both Oil Burners.
2 Click on Action > Combustion and enter Action 323 & 325 for Port Boiler - Change Burner 1 & 2 Tips to Heavy Oil Type
3 Enter Action 327 & 329 for Stbd Boiler - Change Burner 1 & 2 Tips to Heavy Oil Type

Comb Air:
4 Check that HO Tips are fitted to the Stbd & Port Boilers (Dark Brown)

FO Service:
5 Click on the Stbd & Port Boiler 3 way valves and CLOSE to select HFO

Emerg Distrib:
6 Close FO Service pump 1 breaker

Main Distrib:
7 Close FO Service pump 2 breaker

FO Service:
8 Start FO Service pump 1

Bnr Mgt Stbd/ Port:
9 Open the Re-circ valve (also opens the MOTV [Main Fuel Oil Trip Valve] to allow re-circulation of fuel)

FO Service:
10 Open the re-circ valve to the settling tank supplying the HO fuel. HO fuel is now being re-circulated
11 Wait for the Stbd/ Port MOTV low outlet temperature alarms to clear (185º F/85º C)
12 The HFO Main line fuel pressure should rise towards the desired value of 500 psi (3.4 MPa). Viscosity will fall as the fuel is heated during recirculation.
13 Open both (Inlet & Outlet) Atomising Steam Valves for each boiler (all together 4 valves)

T/bines and Feed:
14 Check Atomising steam pressure is approx 150 psi (1 MPa). If not then open inlet and outlet valves to the atomizing steam regulator and ensure the by pass is shut.

Bnr Mgt Stbd/ Port:
15 Close the Re-circ valve (this action automatically closes the MOTV)
16 Check the top 3 green Purge Permissive lights are illuminated.
17 Press the BOILER FIRING START to start the automatic light up sequence of the first burner.
18 Wait for Burner 1 to light up (flashing green burner light stops flashing and illuminates steady green)
19 Press FO Burner 2 START
20 Wait for Burner 2 to light up (flashing green burner light stops flashing and illuminates steady green).

FO Service:
21 If both boilers are running on HO then stop the DO service pump.
