This Concept Map, created with IHMC CmapTools, has information related to: Medial patella ligament, Medial Patellar Ligament Desmotomy *scroll over*er* ???? How is it done?, This procedure has: ???? Advantages 1. Any biochemical interference is eliminated. 2. Good prognosis from the surgery with rare recurrence of the condition., This procedure has: ???? Disadvantages 1. This procedure destabilizes the joint and hence will result in arthritis and pain. To maintain perfomance soundness, more agressiive arthrotherapy may be needed . 2. No guarantee of lameness resolution. 3. Horse requires 45-60 days rest in order to adapt to the new stifle function. (prohibition of training or showing during that period) 4. Often results in fragmentation of the distal aspect of the patella. 5. Sequelae to this procedre includes femeropatellar synovitis, osteoarthritis and osseus fragmentation along the dorsal margin of the patella., Medial Patellar Ligament Desmotomy *scroll over*er* ???? This procedure has:, How is it done? ???? 1.On the sedated, standing horse, the medial patellar ligament is identified along the front and inside aspect of the stifle. 2.The tissue adjacent to and beneath it is aseptically prepares and blocked for anaesthesia. 3. Along the medial aspect of the liagament, an incision is made adjacent and parallel to the ligament. 4. The ligament is isloated using a pair of hemostats and partially exteriorized from the incision. 5. The incision site is then closed up.
