Gait appeared to be normal, Pre-operative Procedure The animal was then Restrained using a rope halter and tied onto a metal bar using a quick-release slip knot., Post-operative procedure The Calf was closely monitored for day 1 and 2 after dehorning and then every other day for seven days post operative procedure. (until holes were closed) It was ensured that the calf was bright, alert and responsive, was eating well and was interacting with other stable mates.The surgical site was observed and holes were drained daily by tilting the calf's head to the left and right respectively. Any liquid drained from the site was observed for blood, pus or malodour (none of which were observed).
