How can we transform academic research to address the present crises? The Fifth Element initiative by The Club of Rome seeks to shift mindsets by asking better questions about the future of humanity. One of our questions is about how we can better align scientific research with societal and natural ways of life. We are working together with the BRIDGES Coalition for Sustainability Sciences supported by UNESCO, promoting collaborations across the academic domains of arts, humanities, social sciences and natural sciences. Science and Art both need two things: money and community. Vast new source of money and vibrant new communities for engagement will become a new reality in the 21st Century as we succeed in - moving social trusts for provisioning Workplace Pensions and Civil Society Endowments - as forever promises of hope for a dignified future quality of life for some, directly, - that must also be, of necessity, hope for a dignified future quality of life for us all - because of the vast size of these trusts and the power they wield to shape the enterprises that shape the technologies that shape the choices that shape the economy that shapes society and our shared future, - out of Ownership Equity and into Stewardship Equity - by upgrading and updating our common sense and common knowledge of the purpose, the powers, the possibilities and the accountabilities of these social trusts that control vast sums of society's shared savings

I'm looking forward to our opening conference 'The Many Faces of Paul: Pauline Exegesis in Pre-Modern Times' from March 21st to 23rd at the University of Geneva. The conference is part of the SNSF project 'Exegesis of Paul in the 16th Century', in which I'm participating. Excited for insightful exchanges with international experts! Our conference aims at promoting a contextualized understanding of the reception of the Corpus Paulinum in the vast Latin tradition from Late Antiquity to Early Modernity. When citing, using, and interpreting Paul, what image did his readers draw of the Apostle, and how did they get to that image? What goals did they pursue, and what resources did they have at hand?

I am so grateful to have two papers accepted to present at the EERA European Educational Research Association (EERA) European Conference on Educational Research (Education in an Age of Uncertainty: memory and hope for the future). Submitting the extended abstracts required for this level of conference is such a positive (but slightly nerve inducing) experience. Seeing comments from reviewers on my submissions such as the one below reinforces how important undertaking rigorous research in the space of school-embedded initial teacher education is - not only in Australia, but globally. "This is a timely paper on a topic of international relevance. It is well grounded in the literature and the methodology is explained in sufficient detail. I would find this a valuable session to attend." 4IR AT THE CENTRE OF INSTITUTIONAL RESEARCH AND INNOVATION DAY The Directorate of Research and Innovation (DRI) recently held an Institutional Research and Innovation Day at the Mthatha Campus with the institution’s top researchers interrogating the theme: Shaping the future of society through Research and Innovation. This year, academics, students and researchers sought to have a robust and multifaceted engagement on how they handled changes after COVID-19, including how the research community can help shape the future of Research and Innovation to still meet societal needs in the new reality. Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Professor Mashudu Davhana-Maselesele, said: “I am encouraged by where Walter Sisulu University comes from.
