Myasthenia Gravis                                                  

Myasthenia Gravis is an autoimmune disorder characterized by a neuromuscular weakness.  Acetycholine, a neurotransmitter, is unable to bind its receptor due to receptor destruction by autoantibodies.

 Symptoms:

    Muscle weakness    drooping eyelids    blurred vision    slurred speech    difficulty breathing

Testing:

    Tensilon test, single fiber EMG, acetycholine receptor Antibody ID and Anti-MuSK antibody ID

Treatment:

    Anticholinesterase agents, corticosteroids, immunosuppressants, thymecytomy
